We acknowledge your concern and you are right that this is currently not done due to performance considerations. We traverse the history until a page rename and I agree we could do better. I hear you that just showing 1 author, 1 changes, (moved) is a possible solution or the other option could be to traverse the git history of the file. We need to think of the most appropriate solution here.
I request you to please add this as a new feature request here so that we can track it on our backlog. I request others to upvote it so that you can get updates on when we start working on this feature.
